We started this blog as a way to chronicle our adventures and travels throughout Asia while living in the Philippines. We have since moved back to the US, but will continue to write about our adventures and experiences. We will include a few pictures and our viewpoints on what we see and do. We hope you enjoy them also. Enjoy, The Blooms

2007-07 Independence Day
We spent the 4th of July here in Eagan beginning with the local parade. LeAnn's niece Heidi invited everyone over to her and Julie's house for the day. They live just a block from the parade route, so it makes for a good starting point. We got down to the parade and put out the lawn chairs and blankets. The kids all invited friends along, so we had a good sized group out on the curb waiting for candy. Both of LeAnn's sisters and their families along with Ray's mom came after the parade to Heidi's.
Since this is not an election year, the number of politicians in the parade was less than in some years. The local boy scouts, girl scouts, dance teams, bands, churches and fire departments were all participating. The Shriner's bagpipe band in full Scottish garb was an unexpected treat.
After the parade, we went back up to Heidi's for an afternoon of swimming, bean bag toss, and rodeo golf. We also grilled hot dogs, bratwurst and hamburgers to go along with all the side dishes like potato salad, taco salad, and pasta salad.
As it got dark, we waited for the fireworks coming from the Community Center. While we were waiting, we made root beer floats (using keg root beer!) and we lit some sparklers. The fireworks started about 10:00 and lasted close to 25 minutes.
